The Mt. Hood Chapter, 902, was formed in Gresham in 1987. After moving from one meeting location to another, it settled on the Portland-Troutdale Airport from 1989 until it made its final move to the Portland-Mulino Airport in 1998, where it found its permanent home.
The membership has been steadily growing. Its members, generally, come from Southeast Portland, East Multnomah County, and Clackamas County, but some come from as far away as Linn County and White Salmon, Washington.
The EAA chapter is for both pilots and non-pilots and is open to anyone interested in aviation. Activities include involvement in the Young Eagle Program, an annual camp-out at Nehalem Bay, a yearly Fun-Fly and B-B-Q potluck at Valley View Airport at Estacada, as well as occasional breakfast fly-outs.
Monthly meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the chapter clubhouse on S. Darnell Rd., on the east side of the Mulino Airport, starting at 7:00 pm. The meeting starts with an evening speaker, followed by a break with cookies and coffee, the a brief business portion of the evening.
A number of the members have projects under construction, or have finished projects, and there are others who are working aircraft mechanics. These members will be glad to help others who are building and have questions about construction.
